An architect or engineer for the project is consulted before hiring a general contractor for a customer. General contractors oversee a project’s overall coordination and may also serve as the supervisor and building designer. Depending on the project delivery, the contractor will provide a fixed price proposal, bid, cost-plus pricing, or estimate.

A general contractor must initially evaluate the documentation specific to the project (referred to as a bid, proposal, or tender document). A site visit is necessary for renovations to comprehend the project better. The general contractor considers general conditions, supplies, equipment, home office overhead, and labor costs, among other things.
